Motor Yachts

An innovative approach that harmonises sea-kindly,
fuel-efficient hull forms with stylish, luxurious design

"Ron Holland is perhaps best known as a designer of Mega-Sailors...
But sometimes when you take someone out of his comfort zone, great things happen."

Some time has elapsed since Jill Bobrow made her insightful observation but the point still resonates today. Ron Holland and his team built their reputation on accumulated decades of experience in what it takes to drive a hull through the water fast, smoothly and in comfort, with nothing but the wind to assist you.

Transferring that understanding to the design of motor yachts meant that Ron Holland Design was always going to take a different tack to that dictated by conventional wisdom. For RHD, effective design, whether motor or sail, is about drawing easily-driven hull lines with clean entry and exit, high stability and good sea-keeping properties. By contrast, in some areas of motor yacht design the principal focus is the selection of the power plant that can drive the desired hull volume through the water. And that can result in yachts that are not optimised for the demands of comfortable and efficient passage-making.

Ron Holland Design's distinctive approach results in elegant motor yachts that can go anywhere with assured seaworthiness and comfort; delivering optimum fuel efficiency through an intelligent interaction between hull design and the means of propulsion.

RMK 4500

The latest project from the Ron Holland Design Studio is progressing with the final stages of construction at RMK Marine in Turkey. Designed for the experienced yacht owner for long distance voyaging, this new yacht has been built to high quality specifications with long term low maintenance as priority requirements. Particular attention has been given to ensure an efficient and sea kindly hull design and exceptional interior volume for a 45m yacht.

The features and facilities will provide the guests with a wonderful experience on board. With every detail being given individual attention, I have made over 20 trips to the yard during the build where very careful control has been given to each component of the design and build to ensure the quality of the finished yacht. The style of the exterior of the RMK4500 is a unique and subtle combination of elegant flowing lines while containing both the practical amenities and facilities of a yacht and a purposeful stable hull. Ron Holland's intention was to create a yacht, optimised for long-distance cruising, regardless of weather conditions and cruising with family and friends in the Mediterranean, which fulfilled several specific requirements. These included exterior styling unique to this design and distinguishing her interior arrangements by the full beam cabin and studio on the owner's private deck.

Marco Polo

The highly innovative 150ft / 45.7m Marco Polo was featured by The Yacht Report as one of the year's most significant launches and went on to win the 2008 ShowBoats International award for "Best New Series over 40 Meters". This rugged, yet stylish Transocean Explorer has been widely noted for its many innovations including single-engine main propulsion and dual-purpose Schottel bow-thruster / secondary propulsion unit. Featuring the benefits of high quality build, leading edge interior design and immaculate fit-out from a competitively-priced yard, Marco Polo also combines fuel-efficiency, range and value with exceptional performance and sea keeping. With many thousands of miles under her keel, Marco Polo has proved to be an efficient, comfortable, ocean going motor yacht. Little surprise, therefore, that a sister design, Mazu has recently finished construction at Cheoy Lee in Hong Kong.
