A lot of careful consideration has gone into the creation of the interior of the M 46.  The brief was for a comfortable atmosphere with a dash of luxury, yet with practical solutions for the experienced sailor.

Traditional wood craftsmanship was married with a light, modern interior concept to create a quality lifestyle aboard the M 46.  The spacious layout of the main living areas of galley, dining and navigation provide an atmosphere of cosy inclusiveness where guests can feel welcome within the working atmosphere necessary for a live aboard environment.  Finishing touches such as dimmer switches on the lights add to the overall sense of luxury.

An abundance of stowage spaces, in lockers and under flooring, have been cleverly incorporated to keep the yacht tidy, be it during a day sail with friends or a cruising holiday with family.

The galley is well equipped, with plenty of work surfaces and stowage space.  A top class cooker, oven and refrigerator can facilitate the gourmet chef in preparing an intimate dinner party.  Good freezer space and a 1.5 metre high larder for dry food take account of the provisioning requirements for ocean voyaging.  It is conveniently located to service cockpit al fresco dining or for feeding the on watch crew.

Clean Deck and Smart Solutions

The overall concept of the deck layout was to facilitate easy short handed sailing by a couple within an arrangement that relates to the modern superyacht lifestyle.

A furling, self-tacking headsail with sheet leading aft to jam cleats in the cockpit has been incorporated to allow the helmsman convenient control over the working of the sail configuration.  Two of the four cockpit winches are electrically powered, and all of the halyards, sheets and reefing are within close proximity.

The very large cockpit provides an exhilarating platform for the sailing crew, yet doubles as an inviting al fresco social and dining area when at anchor or alongside.  An ingenious arrangement of fold-away steps and boarding platform has been incorporated in the stern.

Again, many clever stowage areas have been incorporated on deck.

Innovative and Optimised Hull Design

The M46 has low resistance sailing lines and a modern hull wiht highly effective keel and rudder profiles.  Ron Holland's design makes the boat easily driven in light winds, yet capable and sea kindly in rough water conditions.

Keel Profile
The M46 comes with a modern keel of 2.05 metres (6.73 feet).  As an alternaive, it can have a specially designed keel of 1.75 metres (5.74 feet) that allows the yacht greater access to safely sail into most bays and harbours.

Hull and Deck
The hull and deck are hand laid with ISO-Polyester and gelcoat.  Balsa is used as core material and multi-axial glass fibres in areas needing additional strength.

Rudder Stock of Carbon
The M46 has a composite rudder with a carbon fibre rudderstock.  The normal weight of a rudder of this size using a stainless stock is more than 100 kilos.  The M46 rudder weighs about 20 kilos!  This gives a very direct and unique sense of steering with no compromise of structural integrity.

Safety at Sea

Safety at sea is a combination of design, structural strength, proper installation and best material - along with products and equipment from the most reputable suppliers in the world.

All this, together with exceptional stability and directional control, makes the M46 a safe and delightful boat to sail.  A three spreader rig from Selden and 3DL sails from North Sails vouch for performance and strength.  3DL sails are produced in thermo-molds as a unitary membrane on a full-sized 3-dimensional mold.  This gives durable, high performance sails that hold the shape over a wider wind range and retain their designed shape longer.

The M46 is delivered with a CE certificate and a CE builder plate for category A (unlimited ocean voyages).  The M46 is built under supervision and approved by Det Norske Veritas.
