Following on from the success of their Limited Edition Prints, artist Nevil Swinchatt and yacht designer Ron Holland (naval architect and interior designer of the amazing Mirabella V) have collaborated on a new series of prints based on Holland’s earlier successful racing designs.
The Classics Collection initially features six of Holland’s vintage yachts – Morning Cloud, Big Apple, Club Shamrock, Eygthene, Imp, and Kialoa IV. Each of the yachts represented is historic in her own right. Morning Cloud was designed for Sir Edward Heath to campaign in the 1979 English Admiral’s Cup team. Holland designed Big Apple to represent Ireland in the 1979 Admiral’s Cup for Cork yachtsmen Clayton Love Jr., Dr. Raymond Fielding and the late Hugh Coveney. The Club Shamrock was one of Holland’s highly successful cruiser / racer yachts, with the design constructed by several builders worldwide. Eygthene was equally popular. This was the yacht that brought Holland to the attention of the international yachting world when he won the USA Quarter Ton Championships and the Quarter Ton Cup in her, both in 1973. Imp was designed for Californian yachtsman David Allen. Her wins and exploits on both sides of the Atlantic down through the years – most recently ‘Round Ireland wins for her current owner George Radley – have insured her place in yachting history. Kialoa IV was designed in 1980 for industrialist Jim Kilroy. She was the first of the new generation big composite Maxi race yachts.
Each yacht profile has been beautifully reproduced with a chart of Cork and Kinsale harbours in the background. Handwritten notes on the yacht by Ron Holland complete the stylish production.
The ideal gift for owners or past owners of these yachts and all yachting enthusiasts who campaigned in the ‘70s and ‘80s, the prints either as a set or individually will provide a unique nautical display in any interior.
Smaller in size, at 54mm x 46mm framed, than their limited edition superyacht predecessors, the prints are priced at €260 each, or €1100 for the set of six, including VAT, postage and packing. Framing instructions are included with the prints.
